Twenty years in the classroom, and then lockdown happened, and I picked up a brush. Not because I had a plan. Not because I saw an opportunity. I started painting to make something beautiful for my own home, and then friends wanted what I was making. Then strangers did.
I left the classroom in 2021 and I have never looked back.
My studio is a purpose built barn style space in my backyard in Wagga Wagga, with a rural outlook I still stop to appreciate every single morning. I paint original Australian landscapes and I take on commissioned works from collectors who want their most important places captured on canvas. Pieces that will be gifted, treasured and passed down.

THE TEACHER NEVER REALLY LEFT
When I stepped out of the classroom I brought everything I had learned with me. I have replaced my teaching salary through the sale of my work. It was not overnight. It was gradual, sustainable growth. And I want the same for the artists I work with.
If you are building an art practice and feeling like everyone else has the answers while you are still working things out, you are not doing it wrong. You just have not figured it out yet.
